Myanmar Youth Empowerment Opportunities (MYEO) is, an impact-oriented edutech firm, founded to accelerate Myanmar’s next generation youths with relevant 21st century skills and transformative learning opportunities through an affordable mobile-based online learning platform that increases youth employability and paves the way for a high-skilled workforce for organizations in Myanmar. About This Role – MYEO has the mission of helping Myanmar youth Finding important opportunities including Scholarships, Internships, Jobs, and Training. In some cases, we also conduct our own training programs. We cannot reach everyone in our target audience with in-person classes, and nor can we conveniently present (or collect) all information that way; consequently we rely heavily on technology. Our plans for technology use in education and opportunity networking are currently not met by the available tools, and thus we are looking for someone to help us build out a complete LMS customised for the local environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
– The person fulfilling this role will be called upon to create new systems from scratch, and help maintain existing ones.
– A generalist skillset is required as at the moment the largest amount of work is expected to be in web backend development, but at any time new projects could arise which might involve frontend, mobile app, or even AI and game programming or any other programming task.
– The bulk of the work will be purely in computer programming, but as we only have a small team you may at times be called into related tasks such as system administration, database administration, internal IT support and similar.
– MYEO is big on mentorship. Do feel free to apply even if you don’t match 100% of the listed requirements, as we will be willing to help you out with learning what you don’t know. Conversely, we also hope that you will be willing to mentor your fellow team members in turn on topics that you might be more expert it.
– Having said that, this is not a research position, management position, or internship, so you really will be expected first and foremost to write a lot of lines of high quality code.
– Confidence to work individually and competence to create a high level result with minimal oversight is expected, but the ability to work with other programmers in a team is also a must.
– This position reports directly to the CTO, who at times is also involved in the programming work, but at other times will merely give high level direction.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
– At least some prior practical computer programming experience
– At least some prior exposure to fundamentals of computer science principles, algorithm design and analysis, etc.
– A reasonable grasp of English and Burmese in written and spoken
– Willingness to learn and work with a variety of technologies – Strong analytical and problem solving skills
– Willingness (and preferably, prior experience) to work remotely, including an understanding of asynchronous communication
– Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer programming, software engineering or similar – Python, TypeScript programming experience
– Experience using Chatfuel chatbot framework and chatbot programming
– Relational Modelling / (Postgres)SQL experience
– HTML and CSS experience
– Experience using git (and github)
– Experience of CI, CD, devops
– Experience of linux/unix/bash and basic system administration
– A good understanding of basic security principles (e.g. crypto, OWASP)
– A good understanding of web programming principles and protocols
– A basic understanding of network coding principles and protocols
– A basic understanding of computer security as practically applied to computer programming
– A basic understanding of GOFAI and/or machine learning/ statistics
– Some form of code sample, or if not available, at least some discussion of prior work that the applicant is proud of
